YouTube, along with Google Play & Cinema, scored a new media player, dubbed ExoPlayer, who could ever replace the default MediaPlayer on YouTube. Of course, it made almost no headers back in time.
ExoPlayer is more flexible, allowing developers more control over the various stages (buffering extraction, decoding, rendering, among others).
You can easily switch your application from YouTube and MediaPlayer ExoPlayer quite easily. Provided that your device is rooted, against you.
