There will be two different Galaxy phones on March 1, out of which one will have a wrap-around screen. Both the Galaxy S6, and its wrap-around display sibling, will have metal bodies. Inside, they will be powered by Samsung’s own chips, which confirms previous rumors we’ve heard that Samsung was planning on ditching Qualcomm for the GS6.

Was the note edge good for anything else other than a waste of money and a gimmick?

I think Samsung is making a mistake launching two different flagship phones under the same brand. This just makes customers more confuse. I can almost guarantee that 2 months after the launch they will come up with a prime version of the phone making things even worse. Samsung always had this strategy of flooding the market with products that compete with each other making everything a big mess.

Only two things that are really important 1. Battery life and 2. Signal strength for voice and data. This is all that's important without this you just have a block of plastic.
