It's really not an accurate comparison as Apple always loads up Q4 for the holiday rush with their product refresh. I would agree Apple has a longer tail on sales over the year but they just blew their wad until the next devices are announced.
Was any flagship Android device launched in this time frame? Can you break down by device head to head sales by region? It's well documented there was pent up demand from older iPhone users and those waiting for a larger screen iPhone. You also have the fact that Android devices are staggered by carrier release schedule. Very few have a coordinated release like Apple does at the retail level.
What we'd need to do is track how Apple sales are impacted (if) when new Android devices come to market. Samsung S6 is due soon so we'll know soon enough.
